Traditional animal land breeds play an important role in the cultural history of the Nordic countries. Domesticated animals have over time adapted to the northern climate and enabled people to settle and live in remote places. The interdisciplinary project 3MC - Nordic mountain cattle. Cultural heritage and genetic resources aims to map the heritage of the Finnish, Swedish and Norwegian northern landrace cattle and establish collaborations that can promote their conservation.

The 3MC project provides a diverse insight into the history and present of the Nordic mountain cattle, while the project also looks into the future in order to support conservation efforts. By understanding the breed's history as well as the deep connection between man and animal, we can raise awareness and establish collaborations to find new ways to exploit the unique characteristics of the Nordic mountain cattle - and thus save them for the future.
