The Finnish speaking part of the Nordic countries’ population is an important target group for NordGen. Therefore, we are proud to announce that our website, which already had a Swedish and English version, now also is available in Finnish. The launch of the Finnish website will lead to further reach for our work with conserving and promoting a sustainable use of genetic resources.

NordGen is the Nordic countries’ genebank and knowledge center for genetic resources. Right now, our work is more important than ever since a wide genetic diversity within our crops, farm animals and forests are holding solutions to many of our agricultural challenges, such as climate change and unknown future pests or diseases.

“You always reach people best in their mother tongue so it’s wonderful that NordGen’s website now is available also in Finnish”, said Tove Jern, Chair of the NordGen board and Senior Agricultural Officer at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in Finland.

Visible for more people

The main pages at nordgen.org will be identical in the three languages. The news articles that we publish regularly will be translated to Finnish when time and resources are available, otherwise they will be published in English.

“We hope that this effort will lead to NordGen’s important work being visible for even more people in the Finnish speaking parts of the Nordic region. Today, with the climate crisis and the decrease of biodiversity it’s more important than ever for everyone to understand our work and why genetic diversity is so important” said Lise Lykke Steffensen, CEO of NordGen.
